Traffic Mirrors: An Essential Solution for Road Safety

Traffic mirrors are essential components in ensuring road safety, both in urban areas and in rural environments. These simple yet highly effective devices are used to enhance visibility at intersections, dangerous curves, garage entrances, and many other places with reduced visibility. In this article, we will explore the role of traffic mirrors, the types available, and the benefits they bring in increasing road safety.

What are Traffic Mirrors?

Traffic mirrors are reflective devices strategically placed to provide drivers with better visibility in areas with reduced visibility or at intersections with blind spots. They are made from durable materials such as acrylic or polycarbonate, which withstand the elements and provide a clear, distortion-free image.

These mirrors are often placed in locations where drivers do not have a direct view of oncoming traffic from the side or rear, such as at garage exits, intersections with limited visibility, or dangerous curves.

The Importance of Traffic Mirrors

  1. Improving Visibility: Traffic mirrors are essential for providing drivers with a clear view of the road and traffic in areas with reduced visibility. They allow drivers to see vehicles, cyclists, or pedestrians approaching from blind spots, thereby reducing the risk of accidents.

  2. Increasing Safety at Intersections: In dangerous intersections, where visibility is limited due to buildings, vegetation, or other obstacles, traffic mirrors can prevent collisions by providing a clear view of oncoming traffic.

  3. Reducing Risk at Dangerous Curves: On roads with dangerous curves, traffic mirrors give drivers the ability to see vehicles coming from the opposite direction, allowing them to adjust their speed and prevent head-on accidents.

  4. Use in Private Spaces: Traffic mirrors are also used in private parking lots, garages, or driveways, where visibility may be limited. They help prevent collisions and ensure a safe exit from these spaces.

Types of Traffic Mirrors Available

  1. Convex Mirrors: These are the most common traffic mirrors and are used to provide a panoramic view in areas with reduced visibility. Convex mirrors are ideal for dangerous intersections and tight curves, offering a wide view of the road.

  2. Panoramic Mirrors: These mirrors are designed to provide a view of 180 degrees or more, being used especially in parking lots or at building exits where extended visibility is required.

  3. Industrial Zone Mirrors: These mirrors are made from extremely durable materials and are used in industrial areas or warehouses, where visibility may be obstructed by equipment or stock.

  4. Anti-Freeze and Anti-Fog Mirrors: These mirrors are specially designed for use in extreme weather conditions, equipped with special treatments that prevent freezing and fogging, thus ensuring clear visibility in any conditions.

Legal guarantee

Minimum two-year legal guarantee protection for goods sold in the European Union.

Consumers can claim their rights under the legal guarantee of conformity, for example if goods:

  • do not match the description;
  • do not function as intended.

Sellers are liable for any lack of conformity which existed when the goods were delivered, and which becomes apparent within the legal guarantee period. Sellers in such a situation are required to offer:

  • free repair or free replacement;
  • in some cases, a price reduction or full reimbursement.

Some countries have a longer legal guarantee period. For second-hand goods, a shorter period may apply, but not less than one year.

What to do if you receive non-conforming goods:

  1. Contact the seller as soon as possible to report the issue;
  2. Provide proof of purchase, such as a receipt, invoice, or bank statement.

Sellers and producers may also offer commercial guarantees, which apply independently from the legal guarantee. For example, you may see this GARAN label representing a commercial guarantee of durability offered by the producer at no additional cost and covering the entire good.
