Product description

U18 Temporary Sign – Temporary Diversion (Right), 95x33 cm, Class I

The yellow “Ocolire” (detour) arrow panel pointing right, with class I retroreflective sheeting, for diversions in towns, where the detour has to be marked out junction by junction.

When class I is used

The class I version is the economical choice for work sites on local roads: RA1 retroreflective sheeting with a 7-year service life. The SR 1848-2 rule is simple: a temporary sign must have at least the class of the existing signing on the section, and areas with many light sources call for prismatic class 2 or 3 sheeting. For national roads, lit boulevards or sections signed in class II there is the U18d_II version.

Where it goes, under SR 1848-1:2024

Temporary diversion panels go at the junction where the diversion route starts and, along the way, at junctions, to confirm the route to follow. If the diversion route lies entirely inside a built-up area, the word “Ocolire” (detour) can be written on the panel, as on this one.

What the roadworks rules require (Order 1112/411/2000)

When traffic is diverted, the rules require the signing to start with the signs that mark out the diversion route, and only then the prohibition signs at the ends of the work section. The approval file also includes a sketch of the detour routes, with the direction signing for the diverted traffic. Here too, the rules require signs to be stood on the ground first, to check that they are clearly visible, and only then fixed to a support; no more than two signs go on the same support or side by side, and on one-way roads or bends they can be repeated on the left side or above the road.

On public roads, works are signed under the methodological rules approved by Order MI/MT no. 1112/411/2000. The road closure or traffic restriction is approved by the road authority, with the traffic police's agreement, on the basis of a signing layout endorsed as final, a copy of which the contractor keeps at the work site. The contractor installs, completes and maintains the signing for the whole job, removes it at the end and restores the original signing; accidents caused by incomplete or missing temporary signing are entirely the contractor's responsibility.

At night, if the existing signing on the road is retroreflective, the temporary signing must be retroreflective too and can be supplemented with flashing or sequential (“cascade”) amber lamps; on main and connecting streets in towns, retroreflective temporary signs are supplemented with flashing amber lamps.

? Frequently asked questions

Where does it go?

Temporary diversion panels go at the junction where the diversion route starts and, along the way, at junctions, to confirm the route to follow. If the diversion route lies entirely inside a built-up area, the word “Ocolire” (detour) can be written on the panel, as on this one.

In what order is diversion signing installed?

First the signs that mark out the diversion route, then the prohibition signs at the ends of the work section, so drivers never reach the closed road without the detour already signed.

How does it differ from the class II version?

It is the same size as the U18d_II; the sheeting differs: class II (RA2) prismatic sheeting returns three to four times more light and has a 10-year service life, against 7 years for class I.

When can class I sheeting be used for roadworks?

Where the permanent signing on the section is class I too and there are few light sources. SR 1848-2 requires temporary signs to have at least the class of the existing signing, and in areas with street lighting, shop windows or advertising it requires prismatic class 2 or 3 sheeting.

Which fixings come with it?

The pack holds 2 clamps for Ø48 mm posts and 4 bolts with nuts. Clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request.

Who is responsible for the work-zone signing?

The contractor. Under Order MI/MT no. 1112/411/2000, the contractor installs the signing to the layout approved by the road authority with the traffic police's agreement, keeps a copy of the approval and the layout at the work site, maintains and completes the signing for the whole job and removes it at the end. Accidents caused by incomplete or missing temporary signing are entirely the contractor's responsibility.

Legal guarantee

Minimum two-year legal guarantee protection for goods sold in the European Union.

Consumers can claim their rights under the legal guarantee of conformity, for example if goods:

  • do not match the description;
  • do not function as intended.

Sellers are liable for any lack of conformity which existed when the goods were delivered, and which becomes apparent within the legal guarantee period. Sellers in such a situation are required to offer:

  • free repair or free replacement;
  • in some cases, a price reduction or full reimbursement.

Some countries have a longer legal guarantee period. For second-hand goods, a shorter period may apply, but not less than one year.

For more information on your rights in a specific country, scan the QR code below or ask the seller. europa.eu/youreurope/guarantees

What to do if you receive non-conforming goods:

  1. Contact the seller as soon as possible to report the issue;
  2. Provide proof of purchase, such as a receipt, invoice, or bank statement.

Sellers and producers may also offer commercial guarantees, which apply independently from the legal guarantee. For example, you may see this GARAN label representing a commercial guarantee of durability offered by the producer at no additional cost and covering the entire good.
