Road marking paint bonds well to ordinary asphalt. On concrete, though, or on very old asphalt polished by traffic, it can peel off in the first winter without a primer. The ATP PRIMER is applied first, so the paint has something to grip: Universal Primer Sealer, a clear solvent-based acrylic primer from Vernisol, the same manufacturer as the ATP 1K paints.
The data sheets of the ATP 1K-9016 and ATP 1K-1023 acrylic paints call for a primer on concrete and on very old or polished asphalt; on ordinary asphalt in good condition it is usually not needed. The manufacturer still recommends a trial on a small area before the job.
It is a professional product, highly flammable, with a flash point of -18 °C. It causes serious eye irritation and may cause drowsiness or dizziness, so work outdoors or with good ventilation, with gloves and safety glasses, away from flames and sparks.
The marking paint goes on once the primer has dried: white, the ATP 1K-9016, or a colour such as the ATP 1K-6024.
