Product description

B2 Priority Sign – Stop, 60 cm, Class I

The B2, the red octagon with STOP, requires a full stop even if the road looks clear. It goes where drivers cannot see traffic on the priority road until they have stopped.

When class I is used

Class I (RA1) sheeting returns 70 cd/(lx·m²) for white to the driver and has a 7-year service life, enough on roads where headlights are the only light: local, minor and private roads or quiet streets. In areas with street lighting, shop windows, advertising and dense urban traffic, however, SR 1848-2 requires prismatic class 2 or 3 sheeting. The class II versions are the B2_80_II (80 cm) and the B2_II (100 cm).

Where it goes, under SR 1848-1:2024

It goes on the minor public road or cycle track, at junctions without good visibility, or where a cycle track or cycle road meets the carriageway, as close as possible to the edge of the priority road, but so that stopped vehicles do not block pedestrians crossing. It is also used at crossings with a railway without barriers, other than an industrial line, where it goes with the A47 or A48 cross. The B2 can be signed in advance with an identical sign and the P4 panel, showing the distance in metres to the edge of the road ahead.

At junctions, signs on the minor roads are placed so that their face cannot be seen from the priority road. At acute-angle junctions the sign is set back from the edge of the priority road; if it stands more than 10 m back, the P4 additional panel with the distance goes under it.

Mounting and size

Fixings for the post are included: 2 clamps for Ø48 mm posts and 4 bolts with nuts; clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request. The bottom edge of the sign goes 1.50–2.50 m above the road or kerb, and the edge nearest the road 0.50–2.0 m from the road platform. When they share a post, priority signs go above mandatory signs.

The post is ordered separately. For a fixed installation in a concrete foundation: the galvanised Ø48 mm post, 300 cm. For temporary use, with no foundation: the Ø48 mm tripod post, 120 cm. On concrete or paving, where you cannot dig: the Ø60 mm flange post, 300 cm, bolted down; for it, ask for the Ø60 mm clamps when you order.

The 60 cm height is the small format in SR 1848-2, for low-traffic local roads and short-term police signing; it also suits private premises, car parks and yards. County and local roads, streets and private roads open to public traffic call for the normal 80 cm format: the B2_80_I.

? Frequently asked questions

Where does the B2 “Stop” sign go?

It goes on the minor public road or cycle track, at junctions without good visibility, or where a cycle track or cycle road meets the carriageway, as close as possible to the edge of the priority road, but so that stopped vehicles do not block pedestrians crossing. It is also used at crossings with a railway without barriers, other than an industrial line, where it goes with the A47 or A48 cross. The B2 can be signed in advance with an identical sign and the P4 panel, showing the distance in metres to the edge of the road ahead.

Is the 60 cm B2 right for a county road or a street?

No. 60 cm is the small format in SR 1848-2. County and local roads, streets and private roads open to public traffic call for the normal 80 cm format: the B2_80_I. The 60 cm format suits low-traffic local roads and private premises closed to public traffic.

How high is it mounted and which fixings come with it?

The bottom edge goes 1.50–2.50 m above the road or kerb, and the inner edge 0.50–2.0 m from the road platform. The pack holds 2 clamps for Ø48 mm posts and 4 bolts with nuts; clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request.

How long does the reflective sheeting last?

The sheeting is class I (RA1), with a 7-year service life. Under SR 1848-2, during that time retroreflection stays at no less than 80% of the initial minimum value and the sheeting stays bonded over at least 95% of the surface.

When do I use the B1 and when the B2?

The B1 goes where drivers on the minor road can see traffic clearly and give way without stopping. The B2 goes where visibility is poor and stopping is necessary, and at railway crossings without barriers.

When is class I sheeting used?

Where the sign does not compete with other lights: on roads and streets without strong lighting, on local, minor or private roads. In areas with many light sources (street lighting, shop windows, advertising), SR 1848-2 requires prismatic class 2 or 3 sheeting.

Is there a class II version?

Yes: the B2_80_II (80 cm) and the B2_II (100 cm), with prismatic class II (RA2) sheeting, which returns about three to four times more light from the headlights and has a 10-year service life, against 7 years for class I.

Is the sign CE marked?

Yes. It is CE marked and complies with SR EN 12899-1:2007, the European standard for vertical road signs, and with SR 1848-1:2024, SR 1848-2:2011 and SR 1848-3:2011. The sheeting and the paint resist UV and weathering.

Legal guarantee

Minimum two-year legal guarantee protection for goods sold in the European Union.

Consumers can claim their rights under the legal guarantee of conformity, for example if goods:

  • do not match the description;
  • do not function as intended.

Sellers are liable for any lack of conformity which existed when the goods were delivered, and which becomes apparent within the legal guarantee period. Sellers in such a situation are required to offer:

  • free repair or free replacement;
  • in some cases, a price reduction or full reimbursement.

Some countries have a longer legal guarantee period. For second-hand goods, a shorter period may apply, but not less than one year.

What to do if you receive non-conforming goods:

  1. Contact the seller as soon as possible to report the issue;
  2. Provide proof of purchase, such as a receipt, invoice, or bank statement.

Sellers and producers may also offer commercial guarantees, which apply independently from the legal guarantee. For example, you may see this GARAN label representing a commercial guarantee of durability offered by the producer at no additional cost and covering the entire good.
