Product description

B3 Priority Sign – Priority Road, 60x60 cm, Class I

The B3, the white diamond with a yellow centre, tells drivers they are on a priority road: at the junctions ahead, vehicles on the side roads must give way to them.

When class I is used

The sign has class I (RA1) retroreflective sheeting: 70 cd/(lx·m²) for white and a 7-year service life. It is the economical choice for places without many light sources, such as local, minor and private roads or streets without strong lighting. Where there is street lighting, shop windows or advertising, SR 1848-2 requires prismatic class 2 or 3 sheeting, which stands out better against a lit background.

Where it goes, under SR 1848-1:2024

The standard provides for it in four cases: on priority roads at the exit from a built-up area, on the same support as the road identification signs (F37 national road, F38 county road, F39 local road or F40 road open to international traffic); outside built-up areas after major junctions with other public roads, 30–50 m on, to confirm the priority to drivers joining the road, again with the F37–F40 as needed; in built-up areas, before a junction where the priority road changes direction and drivers may be unsure, with the P21 additional panel (“Direction of the priority road”); and before junctions with minor streets in towns and cities.

Mounting and size

Fixings for the post are included: 2 clamps for Ø48 mm posts and 4 bolts with nuts; clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request. The bottom edge of the sign goes 1.50–2.50 m above the road or kerb, and the edge nearest the road 0.50–2.0 m from the road platform. When they share a post, priority signs go above mandatory signs.

The post is ordered separately. For a fixed installation in a concrete foundation: the galvanised Ø48 mm post, 300 cm. For temporary use, with no foundation: the Ø48 mm tripod post, 120 cm. On concrete or paving, where you cannot dig: the Ø60 mm flange post, 300 cm, bolted down; for it, ask for the Ø60 mm clamps when you order.

The 60 cm side is the size SR 1848-2 sets for the B3. There is also a class II sheeting version, the B3_II, for roads with a lot of ambient light.

? Frequently asked questions

Where does the B3 “Priority road” sign go?

The standard provides for it in four cases: on priority roads at the exit from a built-up area, on the same support as the road identification signs (F37 national road, F38 county road, F39 local road or F40 road open to international traffic); outside built-up areas after major junctions with other public roads, 30–50 m on, to confirm the priority to drivers joining the road, again with the F37–F40 as needed; in built-up areas, before a junction where the priority road changes direction and drivers may be unsure, with the P21 additional panel (“Direction of the priority road”); and before junctions with minor streets in towns and cities.

Does the B3 come in other sizes?

SR 1848-2 sets a single size for the B3, with a 60 cm side. The class II sheeting version is the B3_II.

How high is it mounted and which fixings come with it?

The bottom edge goes 1.50–2.50 m above the road or kerb, and the inner edge 0.50–2.0 m from the road platform. The pack holds 2 clamps for Ø48 mm posts and 4 bolts with nuts; clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request.

How long does the reflective sheeting last?

The sheeting is class I (RA1), with a 7-year service life. Under SR 1848-2, during that time retroreflection stays at no less than 80% of the initial minimum value and the sheeting stays bonded over at least 95% of the surface.

Which panel goes under the B3 when the priority road turns?

The P21 additional panel (“Direction of the priority road”), before the junction where the priority road changes direction.

When is class I sheeting used?

Where the sign does not compete with other lights: on roads and streets without strong lighting, on local, minor or private roads. In areas with many light sources (street lighting, shop windows, advertising), SR 1848-2 requires prismatic class 2 or 3 sheeting.

Is there a class II version?

Yes: the B3_II (60x60 cm), with prismatic class II (RA2) sheeting, which returns about three to four times more light from the headlights and has a 10-year service life, against 7 years for class I.

Is the sign CE marked?

Yes. It is CE marked and complies with SR EN 12899-1:2007, the European standard for vertical road signs, and with SR 1848-1:2024, SR 1848-2:2011 and SR 1848-3:2011. The sheeting and the paint resist UV and weathering.

Legal guarantee

Minimum two-year legal guarantee protection for goods sold in the European Union.

Consumers can claim their rights under the legal guarantee of conformity, for example if goods:

  • do not match the description;
  • do not function as intended.

Sellers are liable for any lack of conformity which existed when the goods were delivered, and which becomes apparent within the legal guarantee period. Sellers in such a situation are required to offer:

  • free repair or free replacement;
  • in some cases, a price reduction or full reimbursement.

Some countries have a longer legal guarantee period. For second-hand goods, a shorter period may apply, but not less than one year.

For more information on your rights in a specific country, scan the QR code below or ask the seller. europa.eu/youreurope/guarantees

What to do if you receive non-conforming goods:

  1. Contact the seller as soon as possible to report the issue;
  2. Provide proof of purchase, such as a receipt, invoice, or bank statement.

Sellers and producers may also offer commercial guarantees, which apply independently from the legal guarantee. For example, you may see this GARAN label representing a commercial guarantee of durability offered by the producer at no additional cost and covering the entire good.
