Product description

F21 Direction Sign – Lane Selection by Direction, 65x85 cm, Class I

The F21 shows, on a road with several lanes in each direction, which directions each lane leads to at the junction ahead: the white arrows on each lane.

When class I is used

Class I (RA1) sheeting returns 70 cd/(lx·m²) for white to the driver and has a 7-year service life, enough on roads where headlights are the only light: local, minor and private roads or quiet streets. In areas with street lighting, shop windows, advertising and dense urban traffic, however, SR 1848-2 requires prismatic class 2 or 3 sheeting.

Where it goes, under SR 1848-1:2024

It is used on roads with several lanes in each direction, on the approach to junctions, to sort traffic into lanes. It goes 50 m before the solid lines that separate the lanes on the approach to the junction. The layout on the sign is made to match the actual road or junction.

SR 1848-1:2024 ties the background colour to the type of road: green on motorways, blue on other public roads, white for local destinations and brown for tourist ones.

Mounting and size

Fixings for the post are included: 2 clamps for Ø48 mm posts and 4 bolts with nuts; clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request. The bottom edge of the sign goes 1.50–2.50 m above the road or kerb, and the edge nearest the road 0.50–2.0 m from the road platform. The sign must be visible from at least 50 m in built-up areas and 100 m outside them.

The post is ordered separately. For a fixed installation in a concrete foundation: the galvanised Ø48 mm post, 300 cm. For temporary use, with no foundation: the Ø48 mm tripod post, 120 cm. On concrete or paving, where you cannot dig: the Ø60 mm flange post, 300 cm, bolted down; for it, ask for the Ø60 mm clamps when you order.

The panel measures 65 x 85 cm.

? Frequently asked questions

Where does the F21 “Lane Selection by Direction” sign go?

It is used on roads with several lanes in each direction, on the approach to junctions, to sort traffic into lanes. It goes 50 m before the solid lines that separate the lanes on the approach to the junction. The layout on the sign is made to match the actual road or junction.

How far from the junction does the F21 go?

50 m before the solid lines separating the lanes on the approach, so drivers can choose their lane before they may no longer change it.

Can the layout be adapted to my junction?

Yes. SR 1848-1:2024 requires the layout on this sign to match the actual situation on the road, so the number of lanes and the arrow directions can be adapted when you order.

How high is it mounted and which fixings come with it?

The bottom edge goes 1.50–2.50 m above the road or kerb, and the inner edge 0.50–2.0 m from the road platform. The pack holds 2 clamps for Ø48 mm posts and 4 bolts with nuts; clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request.

When is class I sheeting used?

Where the sign does not compete with other lights: on roads and streets without strong lighting, on local, minor or private roads. In areas with many light sources (street lighting, shop windows, advertising), SR 1848-2 requires prismatic class 2 or 3 sheeting.

How long does the reflective sheeting last?

The sheeting is class I (RA1), with a 7-year service life. Under SR 1848-2, during that time retroreflection stays at no less than 80% of the initial minimum value and the sheeting stays bonded over at least 95% of the surface.

Which post should I order?

The post is ordered separately. For a fixed installation in a concrete foundation: the galvanised Ø48 mm post, 300 cm. For temporary use, with no foundation: the Ø48 mm tripod post, 120 cm. On concrete or paving, where you cannot dig: the Ø60 mm flange post, 300 cm, bolted down, for which you ask for the Ø60 mm clamps when you order.

Is the sign CE marked?

Yes. It is CE marked and complies with SR EN 12899-1:2007, the European standard for vertical road signs, and with SR 1848-1:2024, SR 1848-2:2011 and SR 1848-3:2011. The sheeting and the paint resist UV and weathering.

Legal guarantee

Minimum two-year legal guarantee protection for goods sold in the European Union.

Consumers can claim their rights under the legal guarantee of conformity, for example if goods:

  • do not match the description;
  • do not function as intended.

Sellers are liable for any lack of conformity which existed when the goods were delivered, and which becomes apparent within the legal guarantee period. Sellers in such a situation are required to offer:

  • free repair or free replacement;
  • in some cases, a price reduction or full reimbursement.

Some countries have a longer legal guarantee period. For second-hand goods, a shorter period may apply, but not less than one year.

For more information on your rights in a specific country, scan the QR code below or ask the seller. europa.eu/youreurope/guarantees

What to do if you receive non-conforming goods:

  1. Contact the seller as soon as possible to report the issue;
  2. Provide proof of purchase, such as a receipt, invoice, or bank statement.

Sellers and producers may also offer commercial guarantees, which apply independently from the legal guarantee. For example, you may see this GARAN label representing a commercial guarantee of durability offered by the producer at no additional cost and covering the entire good.
