The A29 warns of strong crosswinds that can push high-sided and light vehicles, caravans and motorcycles, especially on bridges and on open roads with no shelter.
It goes on the approach to a section where the prevailing wind is strong. The windsock in the symbol shows the direction it blows from: left or right.
As a general rule for warning signs, they go no more than 50 m before the hazard in built-up areas, 100–250 m before it outside built-up areas and 500–1,000 m before it on motorways and expressways, always with the P4 additional panel showing the distance. If the site calls for a longer distance, the P4 is added in and outside built-up areas too.
Fixings for the post are included: clamps for Ø48 mm posts and bolts with nuts. Clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request. The bottom edge of the sign goes 1.50–2.50 m above the road or the kerb, and the edge nearest the road 0.50–2.0 m from the road platform. The sign must be visible from at least 50 m in built-up areas and 100 m outside them.
The 70 cm triangle is the normal format in SR 1848-2, meant for county and local roads, streets and private roads open to public traffic. National roads call for large 90 cm signs, and motorways for very large 120 cm ones.
