The A31, an exclamation mark on a white background, covers any hazard that has no specific warning sign. Where needed, an additional panel under it explains what the danger is.
It goes on the approach to a place with a hazard that has no specific warning sign. It is also installed before level crossings with industrial railway lines without barriers, together with the P7 additional panel, “Level crossing with an industrial railway”, which completes its meaning.
How far before the hazard: in a built-up area, 50 m at most; outside it, between 100 and 250 m; on a motorway or expressway, between 500 and 1,000 m, with the P4 panel underneath. When site conditions call for a longer distance, the P4 is used anywhere.
The sign comes with clamps for Ø48 mm posts and bolts with nuts. Clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request. It goes on the right-hand side of the road, with its bottom edge 1.50–2.50 m up and its inner edge 0.50–2.0 m from the platform; on roads with two or more lanes each way, repeating it on the left is recommended. No more than three signs go on the same post.
The 70 cm triangle is the normal format in SR 1848-2, meant for county and local roads, streets and private roads open to public traffic. National roads call for large 90 cm signs, and motorways for very large 120 cm ones.

Yes. 70 cm is the normal format in SR 1848-2, required on county and local roads, streets and private roads open to public traffic. National roads call for 90 cm and motorways for 120 cm.
The bottom edge goes 1.50–2.50 m above the road or kerb, and the inner edge 0.50–2.0 m from the road platform. The pack holds clamps for Ø48 mm posts and bolts with nuts; clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request.
The sheeting is class I (RA1), with a 7-year service life. Under SR 1848-2, during that time retroreflection stays at no less than 80% of the initial minimum value and the sheeting stays bonded over at least 95% of the surface.
With an additional panel under the sign. At industrial railway crossings without barriers, the panel is the P7 “Level crossing with an industrial railway”.
