The left-arrow version, on an Ø80 cm blue disc with class II prismatic sheeting. It is used less often than passing on the right, for example at obstacles on the left side of a one-way road or at works that close the right-hand lane.
Class II (RA2) prismatic sheeting returns roughly three to four times more headlight to the driver than class I sheeting, so the sign can be seen from further away at night and stays legible when viewed at an angle. SR 1848-2 requires prismatic class 2 or 3 sheeting in areas with many light sources, such as streets with public lighting, shop windows and advertising, where a class I sign gets lost in the background. Class II sheeting has a guaranteed 10-year service life, against 7 years for class I.
It goes at the ends of refuges, traffic islands and spaces separating carriageways, or before another obstacle on the road, where vehicles must pass the obstacle on the left, as the arrow shows. It is usually installed with the A44 directional marker, which shows passing on the left.
Fixings for the post are included: 2 clamps for Ø48 mm posts and 4 bolts with nuts; clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request. The bottom edge of the sign goes 1.50–2.50 m above the road or kerb, and the edge nearest the road 0.50–2.0 m from the road platform. On traffic islands, central reservations and tram refuges, the bottom edge can be 0.60–2.50 m above kerb level (SR 1848-2).
The post is ordered separately. For a fixed installation in a concrete foundation: the galvanised Ø48 mm post, 300 cm. For temporary use, with no foundation: the Ø48 mm tripod post, 120 cm. On concrete or paving, where you cannot dig: the Ø60 mm flange post, 300 cm, bolted down; for it, ask for the Ø60 mm clamps when you order.
The 80 cm diameter is the large format in SR 1848-2, required on national roads; motorways use the very large 100 cm format. County and local roads, streets and private roads open to public traffic only need the normal Ø60 cm format: the class I sheeting version is the D5b.
It goes at the ends of refuges, traffic islands and spaces separating carriageways, or before another obstacle on the road, where vehicles must pass the obstacle on the left, as the arrow shows. It is usually installed with the A44 directional marker, which shows passing on the left.
It is larger than the D5b: Ø80 cm instead of Ø60 cm, and the class II (RA2) prismatic sheeting returns three to four times more light, with a guaranteed 10-year service life instead of 7.
No. SR 1848-2 forbids using signs smaller than the format set for the road's category. National roads require the large Ø80 cm format, and motorways the very large Ø100 cm format.
SR 1848-2 requires prismatic class 2 or 3 sheeting in areas with many light sources: street lighting, shop windows, advertising, dense urban areas. Elsewhere, class II is chosen for better visibility on fast roads and where the sign is seen at an angle.
The pack holds 2 clamps for Ø48 mm posts and 4 bolts with nuts. Clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request, a better fit for large signs or windy locations.
Yes. SR 1848-1:2024 allows small signs where there is no room for a normal-sized one, for example at tram stop refuges or at the ends of the double barrier separating the directions on roads with several lanes each way.
The post is ordered separately. For a fixed installation in a concrete foundation: the galvanised Ø48 mm post, 300 cm. For temporary use, with no foundation: the Ø48 mm tripod post, 120 cm. On concrete or paving, where you cannot dig: the Ø60 mm flange post, 300 cm, bolted down, for which you ask for the Ø60 mm clamps when you order.
Yes. It is CE marked and complies with SR EN 12899-1:2007, the European standard for vertical road signs, and with SR 1848-1:2024, SR 1848-2:2011 and SR 1848-3:2011. The sheeting and the paint resist UV and weathering.
