Product description

B5 Priority Sign – Give Way to Oncoming Traffic, Ø80 cm, Class II

The B5 in the large format, 80 cm across with class II prismatic sheeting, for narrow bridges and sections on national roads. The red arrow shows the direction that must wait.

Why class II

Class II means RA2 prismatic sheeting, which sends back three to four times more light than class I sheeting. It matters on fast roads and wherever the sign is seen at an angle, and in areas with street lighting, shop windows and advertising SR 1848-2 explicitly requires it, alongside class 3. The sheeting has a guaranteed 10-year service life.

Where it goes, under SR 1848-1:2024

It goes 10–20 m before a section whose carriageway is narrower than 5.50 m, to require drivers travelling in the direction of the red arrow to give priority to oncoming vehicles. It is preceded by the A9, A10 or A11, and the B6 goes at the other end of the narrowing.

  • electrostatically painted with UV-resistant paint;
  • class II (RA2) prismatic retroreflective sheeting, resistant to UV and weathering, with a guaranteed 10-year service life;
  • fixings included: 2 clamps for Ø48 mm posts and 4 bolts with nuts;

Mounting and size

Fixings for the post are included: 2 clamps for Ø48 mm posts and 4 bolts with nuts; clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request. The bottom edge of the sign goes 1.50–2.50 m above the road or kerb, and the edge nearest the road 0.50–2.0 m from the road platform.

The post is ordered separately. For a fixed installation in a concrete foundation: the galvanised Ø48 mm post, 300 cm. For temporary use, with no foundation: the Ø48 mm tripod post, 120 cm. On concrete or paving, where you cannot dig: the Ø60 mm flange post, 300 cm, bolted down; for it, ask for the Ø60 mm clamps when you order.

The 80 cm diameter is the large format in SR 1848-2, for national roads; the normal 60 cm format with class I sheeting is the B5. The B6_II goes at the other end of the narrowing.

? Frequently asked questions

Where does it go?

It goes 10–20 m before a section whose carriageway is narrower than 5.50 m, to require drivers travelling in the direction of the red arrow to give priority to oncoming vehicles. It is preceded by the A9, A10 or A11, and the B6 goes at the other end of the narrowing.

How does it differ from the class I sheeting version?

It is larger than the B5: Ø80 cm instead of the normal format, and the class II (RA2) prismatic sheeting returns three to four times more light, with a guaranteed 10-year service life instead of 7.

When is class II sheeting mandatory?

SR 1848-2 requires prismatic class 2 or 3 sheeting in areas with many light sources: street lighting, shop windows, advertising, dense urban areas. Elsewhere, class II is chosen for better visibility on fast roads and where the sign is seen at an angle.

Which fixings come with it?

The pack holds 2 clamps for Ø48 mm posts and 4 bolts with nuts. Clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request, a better fit for large signs or windy locations.

Which sign is it paired with?

The B5_II and B6_II go at opposite ends of the same narrow section: the B5_II for the direction that gives way, the B6_II for the direction that has priority.

Which post should I order?

The post is ordered separately. For a fixed installation in a concrete foundation: the galvanised Ø48 mm post, 300 cm. For temporary use, with no foundation: the Ø48 mm tripod post, 120 cm. On concrete or paving, where you cannot dig: the Ø60 mm flange post, 300 cm, bolted down, for which you ask for the Ø60 mm clamps when you order.

How high is it mounted?

The bottom edge of the sign goes 1.50–2.50 m above the road or kerb, and the edge nearest the road 0.50–2.0 m from the road platform. The sign must be visible from at least 50 m in built-up areas and 100 m outside them.

Is the sign CE marked?

Yes. It is CE marked and complies with SR EN 12899-1:2007, the European standard for vertical road signs, and with SR 1848-1:2024, SR 1848-2:2011 and SR 1848-3:2011. The sheeting and the paint resist UV and weathering.

Text of the notice

Legal guarantee

Minimum two-year legal guarantee protection for goods sold in the European Union.

Consumers can claim their rights under the legal guarantee of conformity, for example if goods:

  • do not match the description;
  • do not function as intended.

Sellers are liable for any lack of conformity which existed when the goods were delivered, and which becomes apparent within the legal guarantee period. Sellers in such a situation are required to offer:

  • free repair or free replacement;
  • in some cases, a price reduction or full reimbursement.

Some countries have a longer legal guarantee period. For second-hand goods, a shorter period may apply, but not less than one year.

For more information on your rights in a specific country, scan the QR code below or ask the seller. europa.eu/youreurope/guarantees

What to do if you receive non-conforming goods:

  1. Contact the seller as soon as possible to report the issue;
  2. Provide proof of purchase, such as a receipt, invoice, or bank statement.

Sellers and producers may also offer commercial guarantees, which apply independently from the legal guarantee. For example, you may see this GARAN label representing a commercial guarantee of durability offered by the producer at no additional cost and covering the entire good.
