Class II temporary signing devices

This category holds the temporary road signs (U) and the work zone barrier boards (V9, V10) made with Class II prismatic sheeting. They are for work sites on national roads, lit streets and any section where the permanent signing is already Class II. The Class I sheeting versions are in the temporary road signs (U) and work zone auxiliary devices (V) categories.

Why Class II for temporary signing

SR 1848-2 requires temporary signs to have at least the same retroreflection class as the current signing on that section: on a road with Class II permanent signs, a Class I temporary sign is not compliant. Class II prismatic sheeting returns roughly three to four times more light than Class I, and in areas with street lighting, shop windows and advertising the standard requires prismatic class 2 or 3 sheeting anyway. Temporary signs that have a permanent counterpart keep its symbols and sizes but use a yellow background instead of white. The comparison between the classes is in our guide Class I or Class II.

Warning and restriction signs

• 90 cm triangles, the large format for national roads: U2 road narrows on the right, U3 on the left, U8 roadworks, U9 traffic lights, U10 two-way traffic and U11 other danger;
• Ø80 cm discs: U12 no overtaking, U13 speed limits of 10, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70 km/h and U14 end of all restrictions.

Diversions, narrowings and advance warning panels

• U18 “Ocolire” temporary diversion arrow, 95x33 cm, pointing right or left;
• 80x120 cm temporary narrowing panels, the size for national roads: U21 and U21a with the right lane closing, U22 and U22a with the left lane closing;
• U27 detour route ahead, 80x120 cm, to the right or to the left;
• U32 series of work sites, 180x120 cm; U33 alternating traffic section ahead, 150x120 cm; U36 street works ahead, 120x80 cm.

Barrier boards and mounting

The 200x25 cm V9 barrier board marks the works lengthwise, while the 200x33 cm V10 directional board goes across the road at the start and end of the works; SR 1848-2 sets both at 1.0 m above the ground. The signs come with clamps for Ø48 mm posts and bolts, and SR 1848-2 allows temporary signs on mobile supports as well.
