Product description

C1 Prohibition Sign – No Entry, Ø40 cm, Class I

The C1, the red disc with the white bar, stops every vehicle from entering the road ahead. Traffic from the opposite direction is still allowed, which is why it is the sign at the exit end of one-way streets.

When class I is used

Class I (RA1) sheeting returns 70 cd/(lx·m²) for white to the driver and has a 7-year service life, enough on roads where headlights are the only light: local, minor and private roads or quiet streets. In areas with street lighting, shop windows, advertising and dense urban traffic, however, SR 1848-2 requires prismatic class 2 or 3 sheeting. The class II version is the C1_II (Ø80 cm).

Where it goes, under SR 1848-1:2024

It goes at the start of a section that no vehicle may enter, although traffic from the opposite direction is allowed, and at the far end of a one-way road. As needed, the P18 (exempted vehicle categories), P33 (road closed to public traffic), P34 (except residents) or P35 (except authorised vehicles) additional panels go under it.

Technical data
  • 40 cm diameter disc (small format, SR 1848-2): red with a white horizontal bar;
  • 1 mm galvanised steel sheet, with pressed edges, no sharp edges;
  • electrostatically painted with UV-resistant paint;
  • class I retroreflective sheeting (RA1), resistant to UV and weathering, with a 7-year service life;
  • weight: 2 kg;
  • fixings included: 2 clamps for Ø48 mm posts, with bolts and nuts;
  • CE marked; compliant with SR EN 12899-1:2007, SR 1848-1:2024, SR 1848-2:2011 and SR 1848-3:2011.
Mounting and size

Fixings for the post are included: 2 clamps for Ø48 mm posts, with bolts and nuts; clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request. The bottom edge of the sign goes 1.50–2.50 m above the road or kerb, and the edge nearest the road 0.50–2.0 m from the road platform. The sign must be visible from at least 50 m in built-up areas and 100 m outside them.

The post is ordered separately. For a fixed installation in a concrete foundation: the galvanised Ø48 mm post, 300 cm. For temporary use, with no foundation: the Ø48 mm tripod post, 120 cm. On concrete or paving, where you cannot dig: the Ø60 mm flange post, 300 cm, bolted down; for it, ask for the Ø60 mm clamps when you order.

The 40 cm diameter is the small format in SR 1848-2, meant for low-traffic minor roads and for short-term police signing at accident scenes. County and local roads, streets and private roads open to public traffic call for the normal Ø60 cm format: the C1. In car parks and private premises closed to public traffic the standard is not mandatory, so the small format is enough there.

? Frequently asked questions

Where does the C1 “No Entry” sign go?

It goes at the start of a section that no vehicle may enter, although traffic from the opposite direction is allowed, and at the far end of a one-way road. As needed, the P18 (exempted vehicle categories), P33 (road closed to public traffic), P34 (except residents) or P35 (except authorised vehicles) additional panels go under it.

Where can the Ø40 cm format be used?

On low-traffic minor roads, for short-term police signing and in car parks or private premises closed to public traffic, where the standard is not mandatory. County and local roads and streets call for the normal Ø60 cm format: the C1.

How does the C1 differ from the C2?

The C1 bans entry from one direction only, while traffic from the other direction moves normally; that is why it goes at the exit of one-way streets. The C2 bans all vehicles in both directions.

How high is it mounted and which fixings come with it?

The bottom edge goes 1.50–2.50 m above the road or kerb, and the inner edge 0.50–2.0 m from the road platform. The pack holds 2 clamps for Ø48 mm posts, with bolts and nuts; clamps for Ø60 mm posts are available on request.

When is class I sheeting used?

Where the sign does not compete with other lights: on roads and streets without strong lighting, on local, minor or private roads. In areas with many light sources (street lighting, shop windows, advertising), SR 1848-2 requires prismatic class 2 or 3 sheeting.

Is there a class II version?

Yes: the C1_II (Ø80 cm), with prismatic class II (RA2) sheeting, which returns about three to four times more light from the headlights and has a 10-year service life, against 7 years for class I.

How long does the reflective sheeting last?

The sheeting is class I (RA1), with a 7-year service life. Under SR 1848-2, during that time retroreflection stays at no less than 80% of the initial minimum value and the sheeting stays bonded over at least 95% of the surface.

Is the sign CE marked?

Yes. It is CE marked and complies with SR EN 12899-1:2007, the European standard for vertical road signs, and with SR 1848-1:2024, SR 1848-2:2011 and SR 1848-3:2011. The sheeting and the paint resist UV and weathering.

Legal guarantee

Minimum two-year legal guarantee protection for goods sold in the European Union.

Consumers can claim their rights under the legal guarantee of conformity, for example if goods:

  • do not match the description;
  • do not function as intended.

Sellers are liable for any lack of conformity which existed when the goods were delivered, and which becomes apparent within the legal guarantee period. Sellers in such a situation are required to offer:

  • free repair or free replacement;
  • in some cases, a price reduction or full reimbursement.

Some countries have a longer legal guarantee period. For second-hand goods, a shorter period may apply, but not less than one year.

For more information on your rights in a specific country, scan the QR code below or ask the seller. europa.eu/youreurope/guarantees

What to do if you receive non-conforming goods:

  1. Contact the seller as soon as possible to report the issue;
  2. Provide proof of purchase, such as a receipt, invoice, or bank statement.

Sellers and producers may also offer commercial guarantees, which apply independently from the legal guarantee. For example, you may see this GARAN label representing a commercial guarantee of durability offered by the producer at no additional cost and covering the entire good.
